Switch from Todoist
Todoist users often have years of small, carefully labelled tasks. The importer brings them over in a few minutes, in the right place, without retyping.
Get the file from Todoist
Section titled “Get the file from Todoist”You have two options.
- One project: in Todoist on the web, open the project and choose ⋯ → Manage data → Export as CSV.
- Every project at once (Todoist Pro): go to Settings → Backups → Download. You get a .zip with one CSV per project. Upload the .zip as it is.
Bring it in
Section titled “Bring it in”- In Thendoo, open Settings → Import and pick Todoist.
- Upload the .csv or the .zip. The file is stored encrypted and deleted when the import is done.
- Check Here’s what we found: counts and a few example tasks. Nothing is added yet.
- Under Where should it go?, pick a Space for your Todoist tasks, or make a new one.
- Choose Import. It keeps going in the background if you leave the page.
How Todoist maps to Thendoo
Section titled “How Todoist maps to Thendoo”| In Todoist | In Thendoo |
|---|---|
| Projects | Lists in the Space you chose |
| Tasks and sub-tasks | Tasks and subtasks |
@labels |
Tags |
| Priorities p1 to p3 | Priorities |
| Descriptions and comments | The task’s notes |
| Durations | Time estimates |
| Sections and assignees | Fields on the List, which you can keep or leave out |
| Deadlines and dates | Due dates |
Todoist writes repeats in everyday words, like “every other week” or “every 15th”. Thendoo turns the common ones into its own repeat rules and sets the first date from today. If a phrase can’t be copied exactly, its wording goes into the task’s notes and the report lists it. Nothing changes quietly.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Todoist’s exports don’t include completed tasks, so only open tasks come over.
- Open tasks with old dates wait under Carried over. You can also choose to clear those dates.
- Run the import again later to pick up changes. Tasks already imported are updated, not doubled.
- The export has no task ids, so Thendoo recognises a task by its project, its parents and its title. A task you renamed in Todoist comes in as a new one.
- Changed your mind? Undo this import works for 30 days from Import history on the same page.
If you said you use Todoist when you signed up, a Bring your Todoist tasks in card waits on Today until you import or dismiss it.
