Connect Google Calendar

Your meetings are the fixed points of your day. Connecting Google Calendar puts them on your Today timeline, so Thendoo can show your real free time and plan tasks into it.

  1. Go to Settings → Connections.
  2. Choose Connect Google Calendar (“Thendoo only reads your calendars. It asks Google for read-only access.”).
  3. Sign in to Google and approve. Thendoo asks to read your list of calendars and their events, plus your email address so you can tell accounts apart.
  4. Back in Thendoo you’ll see “Google Calendar is connected. Your calendars appear in a moment.”

To add a work and a personal account, or calendars for several companies, repeat these steps for each Google account.

Don’t see Connect Google Calendar? The button only appears when the Thendoo server you use has been set up with Google. Ask whoever runs it, or keep using your own Thendoo calendars meanwhile.

Each calendar has two controls:

  • Show on Today puts that calendar’s events on your timeline. Untick shared or holiday calendars you don’t plan around.
  • Space files its events under one part of your life, such as Company or Family. With more than one Space, Today lets you filter by them.

At first, Google events are read-only in Thendoo: you can set their Space and travel. To change them here too, choose Allow editing: it appears when you open a Google event, or as soon as you pick a Google calendar for a new event. Google asks for one extra permission, once per account. After that you can:

  • Change an event’s title, time, place, description and guests, or delete it. Thendoo sends the change to Google first.
  • Add a video call under Video call: Google Meet (Google makes the link when you save) or Other link for Zoom, Teams and the rest. Picking Google Meet on a new Thendoo event moves it to your Google calendar.
  • Create events in a Google calendar: pick it under Calendar in the event form, or make it your Default calendar in Settings → Calendar so new events go straight to Google.

When the event has guests, Thendoo asks each time whether Google should email them. Calendars shared with you stay read-only, and only the organizer can change a meeting. A repeating event’s pattern, moving an event to another calendar, and “this and following” changes are done in Google Calendar.

If you’d like the blocks you plan in Thendoo to show in Google Calendar too, choose Show my time blocks in Google Calendar on one account. Google asks for one extra permission, and Thendoo creates a separate calendar called Thendoo and only writes there. Your other calendars are never edited. Choose Stop to stop sending blocks; ones already sent stay in the Thendoo calendar in Google until you delete them, or that calendar, in Google.

  • Events are missing. Thendoo checks for changes about every five minutes. Choose Sync now to refresh straight away.
  • “Couldn’t sync, trying again soon”. Google didn’t answer. Thendoo retries on its own, waiting longer each time, up to an hour.
  • “Needs reconnecting”. Google stopped accepting Thendoo’s access, for example after you removed it in your Google account. Connect the account again.
  • “Google Calendar wasn’t connected: the Google window was closed.” Start again and finish the Google step.
  • Google showed a warning about an unverified app. Google shows this when the app behind the sign-in hasn’t finished Google’s review. Only continue if you trust the Thendoo server you signed up with; if you’re unsure, ask whoever runs it.
