Our take
Choose Todoist if…
- You need your task list on a phone, a watch or in your email client today.
- You share projects with a partner or a team and assign tasks to each other.
- You want tasks to sync both ways with Google Calendar or Outlook.
Choose Thendoo if…
- You want tasks, habits, routines, bills and your calendar on one Today timeline.
- Missed tasks feel heavy, and you want them shown as Carried over, never as a red list.
- You run several jobs or roles and want each one as its own Space, with its own colour.
Who each one is for
Todoist is built around the list. You add a task in a second, file it in a project, and Todoist keeps it with you on every device you own. Teams use it as well: shared projects, assignees and comments are part of the product. If your main question is “what do I have to do?”, Todoist answers it well and has done so for years.
Thendoo is built around the day. Its home screen, Today, puts your Google Calendar meetings, your time blocks, your Top 3 today, your habits and bills due this week on one timeline, with a To schedule tray beside it. Its main question is “when will I do this?” It is calm by design and supports ADHD, so it can also show fewer things at once when you turn on ADHD mode.
Where they genuinely differ
Scope. Todoist does tasks. Thendoo puts tasks next to habits, timed routines, a focus timer, money, life admin and docs. That is more to learn, and you may not need all of it.
Planning ritual. Thendoo has a guided Plan my day (pick up to three tasks, then give them a time) and an evening Close the day that moves what’s left to tomorrow. Todoist leaves the planning method up to you.
Missed tasks. In Thendoo, a task from an earlier day shows as Carried over, never as a red list. Todoist’s own approach to past-due tasks is worth checking for yourself before you decide.
Devices and people. This is where Todoist is clearly ahead today. Thendoo has no phone app, no browser extension and no sharing. Reminders pop up only while a Thendoo tab is open.
Ownership. Thendoo exports everything you’ve made to one file at any time.
When each is the better choice
Choose Todoist if you capture on the go, share lists with people, or want a tool your whole team already knows. Choose Thendoo if you work mostly at a computer, want your calendar and tasks on one timeline, and care more about planning the day than about keeping a long list. If you are unsure, try writing tomorrow’s plan in each and see which one you open the next morning.
Moving from Todoist to Thendoo
- 1In Todoist, open a project, then ⋯ → Manage data → Export as CSV. On a paid plan you can instead download a backup .zip with every active project from Settings → Backups.
- 2In Thendoo, open Settings → Import, choose Todoist and upload the file. The preview shows your projects, tasks, labels and repeat rules before anything is saved.
- 3Pick the Space each project lands in, then import. Projects become Lists, labels become tags, and repeat rules that match exactly keep their schedule. The report lists any it could not match.
- 4Check the result on Today. Old open tasks show as Carried over. If something looks wrong, undo the whole import from Import history within 30 days.
- 5Open Connections and choose Connect Google Calendar, so your meetings show on Today next to your tasks.
Questions
Can I import my Todoist tasks into Thendoo?
Yes. Open Settings → Import, choose Todoist and upload a project CSV or a backup .zip. You see a preview first, running it again adds no duplicates, and you can undo the import for 30 days. Todoist's exports don't include completed tasks, so those stay behind.
Does Thendoo have a phone app like Todoist?
Not yet. Thendoo runs in the browser and can be added to a phone's home screen; native apps are planned. If you capture most of your tasks on your phone, Todoist is the better fit for now.
Can I use both?
You can, but Thendoo does not sync with Todoist. Both apps can read the same Google Calendar, so your meetings will show in each.
