What are "when-then" habits?
A when-then habit ties a small action to a moment that already happens in your day:
When I pour my morning coffee, then I will take my vitamins.
Psychologists call these implementation intentions. Deciding in advance when and where you’ll do something makes it far more likely that you actually do it, because the moment itself becomes the reminder. Thendoo is named after the idea: “when X, then do Y”.
In Thendoo, every habit has:
- a cue: the “when”, such as after coffee, when a meeting ends, or at 21:00;
- an action: the “then”;
- a tiny first step, for days when the full action feels like too much.
You choose a flexible schedule (every day, some days, a few times a week, or whenever it fits) and tick it off on Today. See Create a when-then habit for the steps.
