Switch from Google Tasks
Google Tasks is simple on purpose: lists, tasks, a few subtasks and due dates. That makes it one of the easiest apps to move from.
Download your tasks with Google Takeout
Section titled “Download your tasks with Google Takeout”Go to Google Takeout at takeout.google.com, choose Deselect all, tick Tasks and create the export. Google sends you a .zip. You can upload the .zip as it is, or the Tasks.json file inside it.
A sign-in import with a narrow, read-only Google permission is planned for later. It is not built yet. The Google Calendar connection never includes Tasks.
Bring it in
Section titled “Bring it in”- In Thendoo, open Settings → Import and pick Google Tasks.
- Upload the .zip or Tasks.json. It is stored encrypted and deleted when the import is done.
- Check the preview: counts and a few example tasks. Nothing is added yet.
- Under Where should it go?, pick a Space, or make a new one.
- Choose Import.
What lands where
Section titled “What lands where”- Each task list becomes a Thendoo List.
- Tasks keep their notes and links, and subtasks stay under their parent.
- Due dates come over as the same calendar day. Google Tasks keeps a date, not a time, so nothing is invented.
- Completed tasks come over as completed, if you choose to bring completed items. They stay hidden until you look for them.
- Deleted tasks are left out.
Open tasks whose dates have passed wait under Carried over. You can also choose to clear those dates during the import.
Change your mind any time
Section titled “Change your mind any time”Importing twice never makes doubles: each task keeps its Google id, so a second run updates what’s there. Within 30 days you can remove the whole import with Undo in Import history. A two-way live connection for Google Tasks is planned for later, if you’d rather keep using both apps. It is not built yet.
Meanwhile, connect Google Calendar to see your meetings on Today next to your imported tasks.
