What is the Inbox for?

The Inbox is where captured thoughts wait until you’re ready to decide what they are. The idea is simple: get it out of your head now, organize it later.

Things land in the Inbox when you capture something without a date or a place, park a stray thought during a focus session, or when a connected assistant suggests something that needs your OK.

Sorting is quick. Open the Inbox and take items one at a time:

  • T makes it a task, with a date and Space filled in from the text;
  • D means do it now, for things that take a minute, and marks it done;
  • S saves it for Someday;
  • ⌫ (Backspace) lets it go.

A small count next to Inbox in the sidebar shows how many items are waiting. There’s no deadline and no red number: an Inbox with a few items in it is normal. Many people clear it once a day, for example during their morning plan.
