Switch from Asana
Asana is built for teams, but plenty of people also keep their own projects there. This guide covers moving those into Thendoo. For shared team projects, a live Asana connection that leaves Asana in charge is planned later, on demand.
Export a project as CSV
Section titled “Export a project as CSV”Asana can export a project to a CSV file. You’d upload one file per project. An import through the Asana API is planned after the file importer, for details the CSV doesn’t hold.
From Asana to Thendoo
Section titled “From Asana to Thendoo”- Projects become Lists in the Space you choose. A project per client can map to that client’s Space.
- Sections become sections in the List.
- Tasks and subtasks keep their parent and child links.
- Custom fields you choose become Thendoo custom fields. Fields you don’t need can be skipped.
- Assignees come over as a name on the task. They only become People in Thendoo if you choose that.
Dates and finished work
Section titled “Dates and finished work”Due dates keep their original time zone. Completed tasks arrive completed and out of sight. Anything still open with a past date shows as Carried over, so you can decide calmly what to do with it.
You stay in control
Section titled “You stay in control”You confirm a preview before anything is saved, and the import then runs in the background. Re-running the same export updates tasks you already have rather than doubling them. If you change your mind, Import history on Settings → Import removes the entire batch for 30 days after.
What works today
Section titled “What works today”You don’t have to wait for the dedicated importer. Thendoo’s general CSV file importer already reads the CSV file Asana exports for a project.
- In Thendoo, open Settings → Import and pick CSV file.
- Upload the .csv. It is stored encrypted and deleted when the import is done.
- In Match the columns, tell Thendoo which column holds the title, notes, List, status, done, due date, start date, priority and tags. It suggests a match from the column names, and only the title is needed. Point List at the column that holds the section or project, so tasks land in separate Lists.
- Keep the other columns as fields on their List, or leave them out. Under Statuses, mark which values mean done.
- Check the preview, then choose Import.
The rows come in flat: subtasks arrive as separate tasks, not under their parent, and assignees stay a plain field. Running the same file again updates rows already imported, as long as their titles haven’t changed. You can undo the import for 30 days from Import history on the same page.
