Switch from Notion

Notion mixes two kinds of things: pages you write in, and databases you track things in. They need different homes in Thendoo, so the importer treats them differently.

Open the page you want to move, or go to Settings → Export all workspace content. Choose Export → Markdown & CSV, and turn on Include subpages and Create folders for subpages. Notion explains the steps in Export your content. Large exports arrive split into several parts inside one .zip, and Thendoo opens those too.

An import through the Notion API, for what the .zip leaves out, is planned for later. It is not built yet.

  1. In Thendoo, open Settings → Import and pick Notion.
  2. Upload the .zip. It is stored encrypted and deleted when the import is done.
  3. Check the preview: counts of Docs, Lists and tasks, with a few examples. Nothing is added yet.
  4. Under Where should it go?, pick a Space, or make a new one.
  5. Match each database status to open or done, and keep or leave out the other columns.
  6. Choose Import.

Each Notion page becomes a Thendoo Doc, and sub-pages stay nested under their parent. Links between pages become Thendoo Doc links, so they keep working. Images and other files are not copied.

Each database becomes a List, and each row becomes a task:

  • The title column is the task’s name.
  • A Status or select column becomes its status. You decide which values mean done.
  • A checkbox named Done or Complete marks it done.
  • Tags become tags, and a date or Due column becomes the due date. Priority is read too.
  • A row’s own page becomes the task’s notes.

Every other column can become a custom field on the List, or you can leave it out.

After the import, the report lists what didn’t come over exactly. Open tasks with old dates wait under Carried over. You can choose Undo in Import history for 30 days. Importing again won’t create duplicates: rows and pages already imported are updated.
