Asana and Thendoo integration (planned)
Asana import and a later live link for assigned tasks are planned for Thendoo, not built. See how projects and custom fields are meant to map.
How often: Not syncing yet. An import and a later live connection are planned.
What syncs
- Planned import: projects, sections, tasks and subtasksInto Thendoo
- Planned import: custom fieldsInto Thendoo
- Planned live link: status and dates of tasks assigned to youTwo-way
Set it up
- 1There is no Asana importer or connection yet. Asana is not in Connections or in the grid on the Import page.
- 2If you can export your Asana work as CSV, the general CSV file importer in Settings, then Import, brings it in today as flat rows: you match the title, status, due date and other columns yourself, and the rest become fields.
- 3Meanwhile, capture the Asana tasks you'll work on in the next few days: press Ctrl K (⌘K on a Mac), type the task with a date and #Space, and press Enter.
- 4If your team also uses ClickUp, connect it in Connections. ClickUp tasks assigned to you sync today.
Good to know
- Asana is not available in Thendoo today. Nothing is read from or written to your workspace.
- Copied tasks are not linked back, so completing one in Thendoo does not complete it in Asana.
- Asana rules, portfolios and goals are not part of the planned import.
Asana is planned for Thendoo, not available. Here is the current design and how to work with Asana next to Thendoo until it ships. The details may change.
Asana keeps the project, Thendoo keeps your day
Most people who use Asana share it with a team. That team should keep running its projects there. For that case, the plan is a live connection: tasks assigned to you show up in Thendoo, and status and dates sync both ways. Asana would stay the owner of each task. Thendoo would only answer “when do I do this?”
Or move your own projects in
If you use Asana alone, for a side project or your household, moving in may suit you better. The Asana importer is in the second wave of importers. It starts from Asana’s CSV export, then may add an API import where the file lacks data. Projects are meant to become Lists in a Space you pick, sections keep their order, and subtasks stay nested.
Custom fields need care, because every project defines its own. The plan shows each field in the preview, so you decide whether it becomes a Thendoo custom field or is skipped.
No duplicates, easy to undo
Every import shows a preview first. Running it again updates tasks already there instead of copying them. The whole batch can be removed for 30 days. Overdue tasks from Asana arrive as “Carried over”.
Meanwhile
Plan the week in Asana. Capture only the tasks you’ll touch soon into Thendoo, with a date and the right Space, and drop them onto free time on Today. Mark them done in Asana when you finish.
Troubleshooting
- I can't find Asana in Connections.
- That is expected. An Asana importer is planned for the second wave of importers, and a live link for assigned tasks comes later. Capture what you need this week as tasks for now.
- My team lives in Asana. Do I have to move everything?
- No. Moving in is one option. The other planned option is a live connection where Asana keeps owning the task and Thendoo only decides when you do it.
- What happens to Asana custom fields?
- The plan is to show each one in the preview, so you can turn it into a Thendoo custom field or skip it. Nothing is written until you confirm.
