Notion and Thendoo integration
Import Notion pages as Docs and databases as Lists from Notion's Markdown and CSV export. See how sub-pages, links and properties come over, and what stays behind.
How often: One-time import from an export .zip, which you can run again. No live sync with Notion.
What syncs
- Import: pages and sub-pages as Docs, with links between pages keptInto Thendoo
- Import: databases as Lists, with status, done, tags, due and priority mappedInto Thendoo
- Import: other database properties as fields, and each row's page as notesInto Thendoo
Set it up
- 1In Notion, open the page you want to move, or Settings and Export all workspace content. Choose Export, pick Markdown & CSV, and turn on Include subpages and Create folders for subpages.
- 2In Thendoo, open Settings, then Import, pick Notion and upload the .zip with Upload and preview. Large exports split into several part files work too.
- 3Check the preview, select Next: where it goes, choose a Space, then select Import.
Good to know
- This is a copy, not a sync. Edits in Notion after the import arrive only when you import again, and nothing is written back to Notion.
- Images and files inside pages are not brought over.
- Formulas, rollups and relations come over as the text Notion exported, not as live values.
- Database rows have no ID in the export. Thendoo recognises a row by where it sits and its title, so a row you rename in Notion arrives as a new task on the next run.
Thendoo can import your Notion workspace today. You upload Notion’s own Markdown and CSV export, so Thendoo never needs access to your workspace. After the import, Thendoo owns the copy.
Pages and databases are different things
A Notion workspace mixes writing and structured data, so the importer treats them separately. Pages, with their sub-pages, become Docs. Links from one page to another become links between Docs, so your notes stay connected.
Databases become Lists of tasks. Status, Done, Tags, Due and Priority columns map onto the task, and you choose which statuses mean done. Other columns become fields on the List, or you leave them out. When a row has its own page, that page becomes the task’s notes.
What stays in Notion
Images and files inside pages don’t come over. Formulas, rollups and relations arrive as the text Notion exported, not as live values. The import report lists anything that didn’t come over exactly.
Safe by design
A preview comes first, with counts and sample items, and nothing is written until you select Import. Re-running updates what came over before instead of copying it. Undo this import removes the whole batch for 30 days. Open tasks with past dates can keep them and wait calmly under “Carried over”, or you can clear those dates.
Keeping a team database in Notion
If your team runs its tasks in a Notion database, you don’t have to move it. Capture the few items you’ll work on today and give them time on the timeline. A live link for task databases, where Notion would keep the task, is planned for later and is not built.
Troubleshooting
- Will my Notion pages keep their nesting?
- Yes. Pages become Docs, sub-pages stay under their parent, and links between pages become links between Docs. Turn on Create folders for subpages when you export, so the structure is in the file.
- Which database columns become task details?
- Columns named like Status, Done, Tags, Due and Priority are mapped to the task. Every other column becomes a field on the List, or you can leave it out in Where it goes.
- My export came as several .zip files.
- Notion splits large exports into parts. Upload the .zip Notion gave you; parts packed inside it are read too. If you got separate files, import each one.
