Google Tasks and Thendoo integration
Import Google Tasks into Thendoo from a Google Takeout file, with no Google sign-in. See what comes over, and why the calendar connection doesn't include tasks.
How often: One-time import from a Takeout file, which you can run again. No live sync with Google Tasks.
What syncs
- Import: task lists as Lists, with tasks and one level of subtasksInto Thendoo
- Import: notes, links, due days and completed tasksInto Thendoo
Set it up
- 1Go to takeout.google.com, choose Deselect all, tick Tasks and create the export. Download the .zip when Google has it ready.
- 2In Thendoo, open Settings, then Import, pick Google Tasks and upload the .zip, or the Tasks.json inside it, with Upload and preview.
- 3Check the preview, select Next: where it goes, choose a Space and select Import.
Good to know
- This is a copy, not a sync. Ticking a task in Thendoo doesn't tick it in Google Tasks, and later changes arrive only when you import again.
- Deleted tasks are not brought over.
- Imported tasks keep their due day without a time of day. Give the ones you'll do today a slot on the timeline.
Thendoo can import your Google Tasks today from a Google Takeout file. You don’t sign in with Google, and Thendoo asks for no Tasks permission at all. After the import, Thendoo owns the copy.
What comes over
Each task list becomes a List in a Space you choose. Tasks keep their notes, links and due days, and one level of subtasks stays under its parent. Completed tasks come over as completed, hidden until you look for them, or you can leave them out. Deleted tasks are left behind.
The same safety net as every import
You see a preview with counts and sample tasks before anything is saved. Open tasks with past due days can keep them and wait under “Carried over”, or you can clear those dates. A second run updates what came over before instead of copying it again. Undo this import removes the whole batch for 30 days, and your uploaded file is deleted once the import is done.
Later: your lists, live
Many people keep Google Tasks because it sits next to Gmail and Calendar. For them, a sign-in import and a live two-way connection are planned. Your lists would show in Thendoo and changes would flow both ways. That would ask for a Tasks permission, and only when you turn it on. Neither is built yet.
What Thendoo reads from Google today
Only your calendars and events, read-only, for the Google Calendar connection. A write permission is asked for only if you turn on time blocks in Google Calendar. Nothing touches your tasks, mail or contacts unless you upload a Takeout file yourself.
Troubleshooting
- I connected Google Calendar. Why don't my Google Tasks show up?
- The Google Calendar connection asks for calendar access only. Google Tasks comes in through the Takeout import instead, which needs no extra permission at all.
- My Takeout .zip has lots of other folders.
- That's fine. Thendoo reads only the Tasks file and ignores the rest. To keep the download small, choose Deselect all in Takeout and tick only Tasks.
- Can I sign in with Google instead of using Takeout?
- Not yet. A sign-in import with a narrow read-only Tasks permission, and later a two-way connection, are planned. Today the Takeout file is the way in.
