Google Calendar and Thendoo integration
See every Google calendar on Today across several accounts, change Google events and Meet links from Thendoo, and send your time blocks to a separate calendar.
How often: Every 5 minutes, plus Sync now whenever you want a refresh
What syncs
- Your list of calendarsInto Thendoo
- Events from the calendars you connectInto Thendoo
- New and changed events, and Google Meet links, in calendars you own (optional)From Thendoo
- Thendoo time blocks, into a separate "Thendoo" calendar (optional)From Thendoo
Set it up
- 1Open Settings, then Connections, and choose Connect Google Calendar.
- 2Sign in with the Google account you want to add and leave both permission boxes ticked. Thendoo asks Google only for read-only access to your calendars.
- 3Back in Thendoo, the banner says your calendars appear in a moment. Under Calendars, tick Show on Today for the ones you want on your timeline and pick a Space for each.
- 4Optional. To see your Thendoo time blocks in Google, choose Show my time blocks in Google Calendar on that account. Google asks for one extra permission, and Thendoo creates a calendar named Thendoo for the blocks.
- 5Optional. To change Google events from Thendoo, open one and choose Allow editing. Google asks for one extra permission. To put new events straight into Google, pick that calendar under Settings, then Calendar, then Default calendar.
- 6Repeat for each Google account you use. Work and personal calendars can sit side by side.
Good to know
- Thendoo changes Google events only after you allow editing, and only in calendars you own. Calendars shared with you stay read-only, and only the organizer can change a meeting.
- A repeating event's pattern, moving an event to another calendar, and changing "this and following" events are done in Google Calendar. From Thendoo you change one occurrence or the whole series.
- Moving a time block inside Google does not move it in Thendoo. Plan blocks in Thendoo.
- Calendars refresh about every five minutes. Changes made in Google can take a few minutes to appear unless you press Sync now.
- Repeating events are kept from 7 days ago to 60 days ahead, and that window moves forward every day.
How Thendoo uses your calendar
Your meetings are the fixed points of the day. Thendoo reads them so your Today timeline shows where the free time really is. Free gaps of 30 minutes or more show up as slots you can drop a task into, and the summary line counts your meetings next to what you planned.
Google stays the owner of your events. Thendoo can file an event under one of your Spaces, such as Company, Personal or Family. Once you allow editing, a change you make in Thendoo (title, time, place, guests, a Google Meet link) is sent to Google first, and Thendoo asks each time whether Google should email the guests.
Privacy and permissions
At first, Thendoo asks Google for two read-only permissions: the list of your calendars and the events in them. It asks for nothing else until you use a feature that needs more. It asks for more only when you use a feature that needs it: the permission for time blocks only lets Thendoo manage calendars it created itself, and the permission for editing only reaches events in calendars you own.
Connection tokens are stored encrypted and never appear in logs. You can disconnect an account at any time from Connections. Disconnecting stops syncing and removes what Thendoo copied from that account; nothing changes in Google. You can also remove Thendoo’s access from your Google account settings.
Several accounts, one day
Many people keep a work calendar, a personal calendar and maybe one for a second company or a family. Connect each account once. Thendoo shows them all on one timeline, and each calendar can be mapped to a Space, so on a day you only want to see Personal, the work meetings step out of the way.
What a sync cycle does
Every five minutes Thendoo asks Google only for what changed since the last check, instead of downloading everything again. If Google says the saved position is too old, Thendoo starts a full resync on its own. When Google is slow or refuses for a moment, the connection shows a calm status such as “Couldn’t sync, trying again soon” and waits longer between tries, up to an hour.
Troubleshooting
- The banner says the Google window was closed.
- The sign-in window closed before Google finished. Choose Connect Google Calendar again and complete every screen on Google's side.
- Thendoo says it needs permission to see your calendars and events.
- Google lets you untick individual permissions. Connect again and leave both boxes ticked: one lists your calendars, the other reads their events.
- The connection shows Needs reconnecting.
- Access was removed or expired, for example after you revoked Thendoo in your Google account. There is no separate reconnect button: choose Connect Google Calendar again with the same account.
- A meeting I just added in Google isn't on Today yet.
- Press Sync now on the connection, then check that the calendar has Show on Today ticked and that the Space filter on Today isn't hiding it.
- Google shows a warning that the app isn't verified.
- Thendoo's Google verification is in progress. Choose Advanced, then Go to Thendoo, to continue. At first Thendoo only asks for read access to your calendars.
