Trello and Thendoo integration

Bring a Trello board into Thendoo from its JSON export. Lists become statuses, so the board keeps its shape. See what comes over and what stays in Trello.

How often: One-time import per board, which you can run again. No live sync with Trello.

What syncs

  • Import: a board as a List whose statuses are the board's listsInto Thendoo
  • Import: cards with descriptions, due and start dates, labels and checklistsInto Thendoo
  • Import: archived and done cards as completed tasksInto Thendoo

Set it up

  1. 1Open the board in Trello and choose the board menu ⋯, then Print, export and share, then Export as JSON. Save the file.
  2. 2In Thendoo, open Settings, then Import, pick Trello and upload the file with Upload and preview. Do this once for each board.
  3. 3Check the preview, select Next: where it goes, pick the Space for the board and say which of its lists mean done. Then select Import.

Good to know

  • This is a copy, not a sync. Moving a card in Trello later doesn't move the task in Thendoo until you run the import again, and nothing is written back to Trello.
  • Comments and members are not brought over. Attachments stay in Trello and are kept as links in the task's notes.
  • Open cards in archived lists are left out, and the import report counts them.
  • Power-Ups, automations and card covers are not part of the import.

Thendoo can import your Trello boards today. You upload the board’s own JSON export, check a preview, and pick where it goes. There is no live sync: after the import, Thendoo owns the copy, and you can run it again to pick up changes.

How a board lands

Each board becomes a List in a Space you choose. The board’s lists, like To do, Doing and Done, become the statuses of that List, each marked open or done. Thendoo guesses which ones mean done, and you can change that before you import. Your board keeps its columns, and Today still sees each card as a task.

Cards become tasks with their descriptions, due and start dates, and checklists. Labels become tags. Cards you archived or marked done arrive as completed tasks, hidden until you look for them, or you can leave completed items out. Each task keeps a link back to its card.

What stays in Trello

Comments and members don’t come over. Attachments stay in Trello, and each one is kept as a link in the task’s notes. Open cards in lists you archived are left out. The import report lists what didn’t come over exactly, so nothing disappears quietly.

Safe to try

Nothing is written until you select Import. Cards with past due dates can keep their dates and wait calmly under “Carried over”, never as a pile of late work, or you can clear those dates. Running the same board again updates what came over before instead of making copies. Undo this import removes the whole batch for 30 days.

Keeping Trello for the team

If your team keeps working in Trello, you don’t have to move. Capture the cards you’ll touch today and plan them on your timeline. A live Trello connection, where Trello would keep owning the card, is planned for later and is not built.

Troubleshooting

My board's lists didn't become separate Lists.
That is on purpose. The board becomes one List, and its Trello lists become that List's statuses, so the board keeps its shape. In Where it goes you choose which statuses mean done.
Can I bring several boards at once?
Trello exports one board per file, so import each board on its own. Each one can land in its own Space or share one, and running a board again later updates it instead of doubling it.
The import put things in the wrong place.
Open Settings, then Import, find the run in Import history and select Undo. It removes what that import added and keeps anything you made since. Undo works for 30 days.
