TickTick and Thendoo integration
Import TickTick lists, tags, checklists and repeat rules into Thendoo from a backup file. Kanban columns become statuses. See what comes over and what doesn't.
How often: One-time import from a backup file, which you can run again. No live sync with TickTick.
What syncs
- Import: folders, lists, tasks, subtasks and checklist itemsInto Thendoo
- Import: tags, priorities, dates in the task's time zone and repeat rulesInto Thendoo
- Import: Kanban columns as statuses, completed and archived tasks as completedInto Thendoo
Set it up
- 1On ticktick.com, open Settings, then Backup & Import (on some accounts it sits under Account), and choose Generate backup. Keep the .csv file it downloads.
- 2In Thendoo, open Settings, then Import, pick TickTick and upload the file with Upload and preview.
- 3Check the preview, select Next: where it goes, choose a Space and which statuses mean done, then select Import.
Good to know
- This is a copy, not a sync. Tasks you finish in Thendoo stay open in TickTick, and later TickTick changes arrive only when you import again.
- The importer reads tasks only. Habits and focus records from TickTick don't come over.
- Repeat rules that use parts Thendoo doesn't support, such as a set hour, are not kept as repeats. Their wording goes into the task's notes, and the report lists them.
Thendoo can import your TickTick tasks today. It reads the backup file TickTick lets you download, so there is no sign-in and no token. After the import, Thendoo owns the copy.
What lands where
Your folders and lists come over, with tasks, subtasks and checklist items. If a list uses Kanban, its columns become the statuses of the List, and you choose which ones mean done. Tags stay tags and priorities map across. Dates keep their meaning: all-day tasks stay all-day, and timed tasks keep the time zone TickTick saved them in.
Completed and archived tasks arrive as completed, hidden until you look for them, or you can leave them out.
Repeat rules
TickTick stores repeats as standard repeat rules, so most come over as they are. A rule that uses a part Thendoo doesn’t support, such as repeating at set hours, is never guessed. The wording goes into the task’s notes, and the import report lists the task so you can set it up again.
Built to be calm
You see a preview first, and nothing is written until you select Import. Old open tasks can keep their dates and wait under “Carried over”, never as a red list, or you can clear those dates. Running the backup again updates what came over before instead of doubling it. Undo this import removes the whole batch for 30 days.
Keeping TickTick as home
If you’d rather keep TickTick, use Thendoo for the day itself: capture today’s few tasks and place them next to your meetings. A live TickTick connection that syncs status and dates both ways is planned for later and is not built.
Troubleshooting
- I can't find the backup option in TickTick.
- Use TickTick on the web. The backup sits under Settings, then Backup & Import, and on some accounts under Account. The file it downloads is the one Thendoo reads.
- Will my habits come over from TickTick?
- No. The importer reads tasks only. Recreate a few key habits in Thendoo as "when, then" habits; they take a minute each.
- I want to try again with different choices.
- Open Settings, then Import, find the run in Import history and select Undo. That removes what the import added, and you can upload the backup again. Undo works for 30 days.
