Evernote import into Thendoo (planned)
Thendoo plans to import Evernote notebooks and notes as Docs from .enex export files. It isn't built yet. See what is meant to come over and what to do now.
How often: Not available yet. A one-time file import is planned. No live sync is planned.
What syncs
- Planned import: notebooks and notes as DocsInto Thendoo
- Planned import: tags and attachmentsInto Thendoo
Set it up
- 1There is nothing to set up yet. Evernote is not in the grid on the Import page, because its importer has not been built.
- 2Meanwhile, keep your notes in Evernote. If you want an export ready for later, Evernote can save notebooks as .enex files.
- 3For to-dos hiding in your notes, capture each one as a task: press Ctrl K (⌘K on a Mac), type it with a date, and press Enter.
Good to know
- Evernote is not available in Thendoo today. Nothing is read from your account.
- The plan is import only. There is no live connection with Evernote in the plan.
- Thendoo's Markdown and Obsidian import works today, but it does not read .enex files.
Evernote is planned for Thendoo as an import, not available. This page explains the design and what you can do today. The details may change.
An import, not a connection
Some apps on Thendoo’s list get a live connection, because a team keeps working in them. Evernote is different. People usually want their notes in one place, so the plan is import only. After the import, Thendoo owns the copy. You can run it again with a newer export, and only what changed comes over.
What is meant to come over
The Evernote importer is in the second wave. It reads the .enex files that Evernote exports. Each notebook is meant to land in a Space or folder you choose, and each note becomes a Doc. Tags come along as tags. Attachments are copied up to a size limit; larger ones are listed in the report.
Notes often hide to-dos. The plan keeps them inside the Doc rather than guessing which ones are tasks. You can turn any line into a task later.
Calm and reversible
A preview shows how many notes and notebooks were found before anything is saved. Re-running doesn’t create copies. The whole import can be undone for 30 days. The export file is deleted once the import finishes.
Meanwhile
Keep writing in Evernote. When a note turns into something you need to do, capture that one action in Thendoo with a date, and put the note link in the task. Your notes stay where they are until the importer is ready.
Troubleshooting
- I can't find an Evernote import in Thendoo.
- That is expected. The Evernote importer is planned for the second wave of importers and is not built yet.
- Can I convert my notes to Markdown and use the Obsidian import?
- You could, with a separate converter tool you choose yourself. Thendoo's Markdown import brings folders of notes in as Docs. Formatting and attachments may not survive the conversion, so try a small notebook first.
- Will my notes stay in sync with Evernote after the import?
- No. The planned importer makes a one-time copy that Thendoo then owns. You can run it again later with a newer export.
