Google Contacts and Thendoo integration
Bring your Google contacts into Thendoo's People, with emails, phones and birthdays, across several Google accounts and without duplicates.
How often: Every 5 minutes with your Google connection, plus Sync now
What syncs
- Contacts from "My contacts": names, companies, emails, phone numbers and birthdaysInto Thendoo
- Duplicates merged by email and phone, across several Google accountsInto Thendoo
Set it up
- 1Connect your Google account in Settings, then Connections, if you haven't yet.
- 2Open People. At the top, the Google Contacts card lists your Google accounts. Choose Bring in contacts next to one.
- 3Google asks for one extra permission, to see your contacts. Approve it and come back to Thendoo.
- 4Your contacts appear in People within a minute, with a Google badge. Repeat for each Google account you want.
Good to know
- Thendoo only reads your contacts. Change a contact's name, company, birthday or Google emails and phones in Google Contacts; the change arrives here on the next sync.
- Only "My contacts" come in, not the "Other contacts" Gmail saves on its own.
- Your notes, tags, history and follow-ups stay in Thendoo and never go to Google.
- A birthday saved without a year works for reminders; Thendoo just doesn't know the year.
How Thendoo uses your contacts
Your contacts come into People, where each person can carry your own notes, tags, a history of calls and meetings, and a gentle follow-up. Birthdays from Google appear in Life admin’s birthday list with a reminder before the day.
Google stays the owner of your contacts. Thendoo reads them and never changes or deletes anything in Google.
No duplicates
If someone you already have in People shares an email or phone number with a Google contact, Thendoo links the two instead of adding a copy. The same goes for a colleague who is in both your work and personal Google accounts: they become one person with both email addresses.
Keeping up to date
Contacts refresh with your Google connection about every five minutes, and Thendoo fetches only what changed since the last time. A contact you edit in Google shows the new details here shortly after. A contact you delete in Google leaves People too, unless you added notes, a follow-up or history to that person in Thendoo; then the person stays, without the Google badge, so nothing you wrote is lost.
Privacy and permissions
Thendoo asks Google for “See and download your contacts” only when you choose Bring in contacts, never when you connect your calendar. Stop at any time from the People page or Connections: what came from Google leaves Thendoo. Disconnecting the Google account does the same. You can also remove Thendoo’s access in your Google account settings.
Troubleshooting
- Someone appears once although they are in two of my Google accounts.
- That's on purpose. Thendoo merges people who share an email or phone number, so the same person isn't listed twice.
- A person I added myself now shows a Google badge.
- Their email or phone matched a Google contact, so Thendoo linked them instead of adding a copy. Your name and details stay as you typed them; Google only fills in what was empty.
- I want my Google contacts out of Thendoo.
- Choose Stop on the Google Contacts card or in Connections. Contacts from Google leave People. People you wrote notes or history for stay, without the Google badge.
- Google shows a warning that the app isn't verified.
- Thendoo's Google verification is in progress. Choose Advanced, then Go to Thendoo, to continue. The contacts permission is read-only.
