How to use it
- Name the routine, like “Morning launch” or “Leave the office”.
- Choose how it starts: at a time, when your last meeting ends, when you arrive somewhere, or whenever you choose.
- Choose how often: every day, on certain days, or a few times a week. Then choose how many misses a week you’ll forgive.
- Add the steps in order. Give each one a rough number of minutes and, if it helps, a tiny first move: the smallest physical action that starts it, like “fill the glass by the kettle”.
- Read the preview. Each step should make sense as “after X, then Y”. If one doesn’t, reorder it with the arrow buttons.
- Copy or download the template file.
Design a routine that survives bad days
- Start from a cue that already happens. A routine that starts “at 7:30” gets skipped when you oversleep. One that starts “after I switch off the alarm” doesn’t.
- Put the easiest step first. Momentum matters more than order of importance.
- Keep a minimum version. Mark the two steps you’d still do on your worst day. On those days, doing just those two still counts.
- Count minutes honestly. The total at the bottom is often a surprise. If the routine takes 45 minutes, plan for 45 minutes.
Why the output is a file
The routine builder is the bridge between this website and the app. Every Thendoo template, including the ones in the template gallery, uses the same documented format. That means a routine you design here stays in one portable, readable file instead of a screenshot or a note.
Routines in Thendoo
In the app, a routine runs step by step: Step 2 of 5 with a countdown, Next step and Finish. Each habit has its own when-then cue and a forgiving streak.
