How to use it
- Pick your currency. The calculator formats every amount for that currency.
- Enter your take-home income for the month. Add a line for each source if you have more than one.
- Fill in your spending lines and put each one in a group: Needs, Wants or Savings & debt. Rename, add or remove lines to match your real life.
- Watch Left to assign. Move money between lines until it’s zero, or close to it.
- Check the 50/30/20 comparison. It doesn’t say what’s right for you, but it shows where most of your money goes.
- Export a CSV for your spreadsheet, or download the categories as a Thendoo template file. The app can’t import that file yet, so use it as your list when you add categories under Money → Categories.
A budget you’ll actually use
A budget is a plan for the next month, not a verdict on the last one. Keep it rough. Ten lines you’ll look at beat forty you won’t. Round numbers up for anything that varies, like groceries, energy bills and transport. A budget that’s a little generous is one you can keep.
If you have ADHD, irregular spending is often the real problem: subscriptions you forgot, annual renewals, and the expensive week when everything is due at once. Add a Yearly costs line and divide each annual bill by twelve, so the big months stop being a surprise.
After the plan
Once a month, compare the plan with what really happened. The point is to fix the plan, not to blame yourself. Lines you overspend every month are usually lines that were planned too low.
Money in Thendoo
The Thendoo app tracks accounts in several currencies, imports transactions from your bank’s CSV file, and sets monthly budgets per category. Bills due within the next seven days show on your Today view. It doesn’t connect to banks directly; you import the file your bank lets you download.
